Stewardship
At Haven of Rest Stewardship is one of the most important aspects of our work. We are accountable both to our donors and to the Lord for the responsible use of the resources entrusted to us. This accountability includes adherence to our core value that all funds will be raised with integrity through voluntary contributions from the private sector. We receive no government funding and no funds from United Way.
85.1% of our revenue comes from gifts from individuals this includes financial gifts and gifts-in-kind; the rest from churches, businesses, organizations, and foundations. We have told our story, shared our needs, and trusted God to do the rest.
Stewardship means a commitment to provide support for innovative programming that addresses the changing needs of the homeless and poor of our community. Stewardship means Accountability. Haven of Rest Ministries is a member of the ECFA and must adhere to strict accounting practices, fundraising tools must accurately represent the needs of the ministry, and fundraising costs must be in line with national standards.
It also means that gifts are used as they were intended. Donations earmarked for specific needs are used for those purposes.
Stewardship means Sound Fiscal Management - Each year an annual report is published, which details how funds are raised, and how they are spent. This report shows that the majority of our annual income, 75%, goes toward providing direct services to those in need. In addition, we work with nearly 60 rescue missions around the country to gang print and mail appeal letters. This greatly reduces fundraising costs. At HRM good stewardship is a practice we consider fundamental in all we do.
